In Recognition of His Never-ending Efforts in Promoting Art and Culture in the Arab World

Dhafer L'Abidine Selected as a Goodwill Ambassador for The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO)


Tunisian star Dhafer L'Abidine was selected by The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) as a Goodwill Ambassador for Arts. The selection is coming as part of the institution's first Good will Ambassadors' program take off, which is set to be officially revealed at the organization's new headquarters inauguration ceremony in Tunisia on Tuesday, March 1st 2016.

In its letter of appointment, the ALECSO stated that Dhafer L'Abidine is selected as its Goodwill Ambassador" in recognition of L'Abidine's never-ending efforts in spreading awareness to promote art and culture in the Arab world."

L'Abidine stated at the ALECSO's Goodwill Ambassadors' program take off, "It's an honor to be chosen as a goodwill ambassador by ALECSO.I believe that the future of the Arab world lies at the heart of child education and refined culture".

The inauguration ceremony is set to be attended by Tunisian President Mohamed Beji Caid Essebsi, Dr. Nabil Elaraby, Secretary-General of the Arab League, and Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO, along with an array of public figures in the fields of media, art and culture from across the Arab world.

Alongside L'Abidine, ALECSO has selected two goodwill ambassadors, namely; Kuwaiti poet Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain, businessman and initiator of The Foundation of Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain's Prize for Poetic Creativity, and Emirati businessman Abdullah Ahmed al-Ghurair, owner and founder of Abdullah Al Ghurair Education Foundation in the UAE.

The ALECSO Goodwill Ambassadors program is charity-based intended for primary schools in the Arab countries. The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) will take part in awareness campaigns and other projects that will be handled financially and logistically by the institution. The program will be set according to the ambassador's schedule.

During the past years, Dhafer L'Abidine has demonstrated strong performances in some of the biggest Arab TV drama hits. Last Ramadan, L'Abidine won the hearts and minds of audiences through Taht Al Sytara (2015), which boldly highlighted the struggle of people with drug-abusing past. He also starred in Oreedu Rajolan and 24 Kirats. In Ramadan 2014, he starred in Farq Tawqeet and previously took part in Neeran Sadeqa (2013) Vertigo (2012) and Zakerat Al Gassad (2010), which featured an array of A-list stars from across the region. Originally from Tunisia, L'Abidine also starred in the Tunisian feature film Akher December (2010) and Tunisian TV series Maktoob (2008(.

Before his sky-rocketing breakthrough in the Arab world, Dhafer enjoyed a successful career in the West, appearing in international film productions such as Children of Men (2006), Sex and the City 2 (2010), Centurion (2010), Black Forest (2012), Rise of the Footsoldier (2007) and the upcoming film A Hologram for the King, directed by Tom Twyker and starring Tom Hanks.
L'Abidine recently finished shooting his role in his first Egyptian film Esmat Abu Shanab along with star Yasmin Abdulaziz, director Sameh Abdel Aziz and producer Ahmed El Sobky. Currently, L'Abidine is shooting his scenes in Al Khoroug TV drama, which is slated to premiere in Ramadan 2016. Written by Mohamed El Safty, Al Khoroug is directed by Mando El Adl, produced by Aroma Pictures, and co-stars Sherif Salama, alongside Dhafer L'Abidine.Dhafer L'Abidine has been recently honored for his entire works by Al-Bawaba News.
