Feature Film Abou Leila Commercially Releases in Tunisian Theaters


Algerian film Abou Leila by director Amni Sidi-Boumedine has commercially released in Tunisian theaters on Wednesday, March 24. The film is set to have screenings at ten different venues; Cinéma Amilcar, CinéMadart in Carthage, Le Métropole in Menzel Bourguiba, Le Majestic – Le Centre Culturel Nord in Bizerte, Cinéma ABC, Cinéma Le Parnasse, Ciné 350, L'Institut français de Tunisie, Pathé Mall Of Sousse, and Pathé Tunis City.

Abou Leila world premiered at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, within La Semaine de la Critique, and has previously won several awards, including Best European Fantastic Feature Film at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival, Best Film Award at the Seville European Film Festival, Best Actor Award at the Carthage Film Festival, and Critics Prize at the D'A Film Festival Barcelona.

The film has also participated in a number of international festivals, including the Cairo International Film Festival, Entrevues Belfort Festival international du film, Shanghai International Film Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival, Amman International Film Festival, and Le Festival du film franco-arabe de Noisy-Le-Sec.

Algeria, 1994, S. and Lotfi, two friends from childhood, travel through the desert looking for the dangerous terrorist Abou Leila. Their quest seems absurd, given that the Sahara has not been affected by the several attacks. Knowing his friend is too fragile to face more bloodshed, Lofti’s only priority is to keep S. as far from the capital as possible. But the deepest they go into the desert, the more they get confronted with their own violence.
Written and directed by Amin Sidi-Boumedine, Abou Leila stars Slimane Benouari, Lyes Salem, and Azouz Abdelkader. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution in the Arab world.

Amin Sidi-Boumédiène obtained a degree in Film Directing from CLCF (Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français) in Paris in 2005. His first short film Tomorrow, Algiers? Was screened in several film festivals worldwide. His second short, Al Djazira, won the Best Arab Film award at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival. In 2014, He directed his third short film, Serial K. that screened at the film days of Bejaia. Amin Sidi-Boumédiène has recently completed his first feature film, Abou Leila. Shot in Algeria, the film got selected for the Critics' Week at the 58th Cannes Film Festival.
