Foreign Body Screens at the Jesuit Cultural Center in Alexandria on Wednesday, May 9
The film Foreign Body by director Raja Amari is going to screen at the Jesuit Cultural Center in Alexandria, as part of the Cinemate May program, on Wednesday, May 9 at 07:00 PM. The film is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.
Cinemate is a cinematic initiative that aims to promote and introduce different forms of visual arts and cinematic approaches that are not available for commercial screenings in Alexandria. It also seeks to engage and interact with the prevailing mainstream visual cultures and provide a fair and equal opportunity for the audience to get exposed to these forms of art through building a link between production companies and alternative movie theaters.
The film follows Samia, a young illegal immigrant who ran away from her brother, during her first months in France. Haunted by the fear of being followed by her extremist brother whom she had denounced to the authorities, Samia first finds refuge at Imed's home, a former acquaintance from her village, before ending up working for the rich widow Leila. These new meetings mingle with her headlong flight, where desire enhances tensions.
Foreign Body is written and directed by Raja Amari, and stars Hiam Abbass, Sarah Hannachi, Salim Kechiouche and Majd Mastoura. The film is co-produced by Dora Bouchoucha and Dominique Besnéhard. Foreign Body has been selected at many international film festivals including the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), and made its world premiere atthe Toronto International Film Festival.
