In Coincidence with the International Stuttering Awareness Day
Just Another Accent Screens at VOX Cinema on Friday October 19
In coincidence with the International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD), documentary film Just Another Accent by directors Khadijah Kudsi and Samia Ali will be screened at VOX Cinemas, Yas Mall on Friday, the 19th of October at 04:00 pm. The screening is powered by Majid Al Futtaim's VOX Cinemas as part of their sustainability approach toward supporting prominent Emirati directors, in collaboration with Stutter UAE initiative, founded by Farah Al Qaissieh, the protagonist of the film.
Stutter UAE is a social initiative based in Abu Dhabi with the aim of supporting people who stutter and raise awareness in the community about the challenges faced by them. The initiative will be hosting the International Stuttering Awareness Day (ISAD) event on October 20th at the softball pitch in Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.
Just Another Accent has been screened alongside a selection of short films at the Cannes Film Festival and was also part of the Malmo Arab Film Festival in Sweden. Directed by Khadijah Kudsi and Samia Ali, Just Another Accent revolves around a young Emirati woman who uses her speech impediment as the catalyst to help others in the UAE. The film is distributed by MAD Solutions.
The documentary aims to raise awareness of stuttering and wipe off the stigma that has long been attached to it. The film also follows Farah Al Qaissieh's journey in supporting the stutter community through her non-profit organization of Stutter UAE and the features other people who stutter and the issues they face in everyday life.
Most recently, Farah Al Qaissieh has won the 2018 Abu Dhabi Award for her role in raising awareness of stuttering through her initiative Stutter UAE. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, honored Al Qaissieh in a ceremony held at the Sea Palace.
