Lollipop Screens at the Sharm El-Sheikh Asian Film Festival

Director Hanaa Saleh Alfassi's short film Lollipop will screen at the 3rd Sharm El-Sheikh Asian Film Festival (SAFF)(March 2 - 8), within its Short Films Competition.

Sharm El-Sheikh Asian Film Festival (SAFF) is a non-profit cultural event organized by the Noon Foundation for Culture and Arts, with the contribution and support of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, The Ministry of Youth and Sports, The General Authority for Tourism Development and the South Sinai Governorate. This edition, the Festival is hosting an annual competition for filmmakers aiming to lead the way in introducing Asian cinema to the Arab world. The SAFF will feature a number of interesting programs, including gala events, open-air screenings, workshops, and seminars, all attended by the industry's leading filmmakers.

Lollipop made its world premiere at the 14th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), within the Muhr Gulf Short competition. The film took part in several international film festivals, including the Arab Film Festival at Cinetopia in the USA, the 15th Festimaj International School Film Festival in France, Festival des Cinémas Arabes à Paris, Oran International Arabic Film Festival in Algeria, and the Karama Human Rights Film Festival in Jordan.

The film follows a 14 year-old Muslim girl who experiences the onset of puberty, meaning she must begin wearing a full black Niqab. When her tormentor at school swipes her jacket, a case of mistaken identity exposes the perversity of the bully's father.

Directed by Hanaa Saleh Alfassi, Lollipop stars Malak Radwan, Ayman Samman and Sarah Alhazmi. The film is produced by Hanaa Saleh Alfassi and Shannon Emigh, Co-founder of Axe Pictures in the U.S, and co-produced by Alex Lampsos and MalikaFrikouk, Executive Producer and Co-founder of the Moroccan branch of the company. The film was partly funded by Enjaaz, Dubai Film Market's production support programme. Lollipop is distributed by MAD Solutions in the Arab world.
