The Tale of the UAE Team's Qualification for the 1990 World Cup in Italy

MAD Solutions Releases The Lights of Rome in the UAE in the Widest Release of a Documentary in Arab Cinemas

Coinciding with the UAE National Day, MAD Solutions has released director Ali Khaled's documentary film The Lights of Rome (Anwar Roma) in seven screens across the UAE last Thursday, December 1, marking the biggest number of screens for the release of a documentary film in the Arab world.

Abdallah Al Shami, GCC Managing Partner at MAD Solutions, comments, "The release of The Lights of Rome in these many screens in the Arab world is unprecedented for a documentary film. This will definitely contribute to the development of cinema in the Arab world by attracting a large number of audiences to watch documentaries in movie theaters. The film will have further releases across more theatres soon."

The film recounts the true underdog story of how the UAE National Football Team pulled off a miracle by qualifying for the 1990 World Cup in Italy. Making it to the World Cup was a dream in 1990, and only one team made it a reality.

The plot of The Lights of Rome opens in 1989 in Singapore, when the UAE national football team managed to qualify for the 1990 World Cup in Italy for the first time in the country's history. The film features rare footage from the team's journey and interviews with its members, as well as the officials and critics who witnessed this great achievement, in addition to amazing popular songs and music from the time, which will serve to bring those who lived during the event back to the time of The Lights of Rome.

Directed by Ali Khaled and produced by Image Nation Abu Dhabi, The Lights of Rome is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions. Filming of The Lights of Rome was kick started through a campaign back in 2014 where a group of Emirati football lovers shared their memories of the legendary finals to the qualification for the 1990 World Cup.

The Lights of Rome will be released in the following movie theaters: Abu Dhabi | Vox Cinema in Yas Mall, Novo Cinema in the World Trade Center Mall, Cine Royal Cinema in Deerfields Mall and Dalma Mall | Vox Cinema in Mall of the Emirates, Reel Cinema in Dubai Mall, Fujairah | Vox Cinema in Fujairah City Center.
