MAD Solutions Sends Three Short Films to the Palestinian Film Festival Australia
MAD Solutions will be taking part in the 8th edition of the Palestinian Film Festival Australia (26 October - 19 November) with three short films from its list of clientele. The three MAD shorts include The Parrot by Darin J. Sallam; Amjad Al-Rasheed,that won the Jury Award at the MalmĂ¶ Arab Film Festival (MAFF); BONBONĂ‰ by Rakan Mayasi; and A Drowning Man by Mahdi Fleifel that will be competing within the Short Muh Competition at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).
The Palestinian Film Festival Australia is dedicated to the promotion of Palestinian art and culture in a multicultural Australian context and showcasing the very best of Palestinian cinema from around the globe at six Australian cities.
About The Parrot:
The film tells the story of a Mizrahi Jewish family, who emigrate from Morocco, trying to settle into their new life in Haifa, Palestine in 1948. Directed by Darin J. Sallam and Amjad Al-Rasheed, The Parrot stars Hend Sabry, Ashraf Barhoum, Yasmine Ben Amara, Eyad Hourani, Firas Taybeh, Lara Sawalha, and Ahmad Al-Madani, and written by Darin J. Sallam, Amjad Al-Rasheed, and Rifqi Assaf.
The Parrot had its world premiere at the 13th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF) within the Muhr Short competition. The film is one of the film projects funded by the German Robert Bosch Stiftung Foundation (RBS), which funds the Best German-Arab film projects. The film received the 2015 Film Prize of RBS in the short fiction category. Recently, The Parrot won the Jury Award at the MalmĂ¶ Arab Film Festival in Sweden. The film is a German/Jordanian co-production between the German company Monokel (Roman Roitman) and the Jordanian company TaleBox (Deema Azar). The film is distributed in the Arab world by MAD Solutions.
In less than 16 minutes, BONBONĂ‰ follows a Palestinian detainee, who gets visited by his wife in an Israeli prison, where he serves his time. His wife performs a bold and innovative activity to satisfy their secret desires.
BONBONĂ‰ landed its world premiere at the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada within the Short Cuts section. The film is scheduled to be released in theatres soon.
Written and directed by Rakan Mayasi, BONBONĂ‰ stars Saleh Bakri, Rana Alamuddin, Nadera Omran and Ziad Bakri. BONBONĂ‰ is produced by Groundglass235 in co-production with The Postoffice and Mad4Films, in association with db Studios. MAD Solutions is the film's distributor across the Arab world, while Salaud Morisset is handling the film's international distribution.
About A Drowning Man
Alone and far from home, The Kid makes his way through a strange city looking for the means to get through his day. Surrounded by predators he is forced to make compromises merely to survive, his life of exile grows one day longer.
The film was nominated for the Short Film Palme d'Or at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, marking the sole Arab film in the competition and took part in the 42nd Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada within the Short Cuts section.
Written and directed by Mahdi Fleifel, A Drowning Man stars Atef Alshafei, Jalal Qaniry, Mounir Alkhateeb, Rebih El-Saleous and Thymios Koukios. The film is produced by Final Cut for Real and Nakba Film Works. MAD Solutions is the film's distributor across the Arab world, while Salaud Morisset is handling the film's international distribution.
