Kicking off with the prestigious Orizzonti Award for Best Director at Venice Film Festival, Jordanian feature Theeb continues its successful festivals tour during October, with Abu Dhabi Film Festival (ADFF), marking its MENA Premiere, BFI London Film Festival, and
Mumbai Film Festival in India.
Alongside its MENA Premiere, Theeb will be taking part at the 8th edition of ADFF competing against 18 films within the New Horizons competition, which showcases feature-length films by first and second time directors from across the world. The film will be screened twice; on Sunday, October 26th and Tuesday, October 28th, 2014.
The film has also been part of the 16th Mumbai Film Festival, which closes on October 21st, 2014, within the International Competition for the first feature films of directors, vying for its awards which amount to USD 200,000.
Theeb was screened twice at BFI London Film Festival; on October 11th and 17th. The films' tickets were all sold out before the festival's launch. This year's festival, regarded as one of the world's most important European film events, featured 248 films coming from across the globe. Theeb has contended for the Sutherland Trophy at the First Feature competition against 11 films.
The film's win at Venice Film Festival was the first time a Jordanian film received the award in the history of this festival. Shortly after, the film had its North American Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival in Canada.
Set in the Arabian Desert of 1916, the film follows Theeb, a young Bedouin boy and his elder brother Hussein, as they leave the safety of their tribe to venture on a treacherous journey at the dawn of the Great Arab Revolt. If Theeb is to survive he must quickly learn about adulthood, trust and betrayal. The film is produced by Bayt Al Shawareb, which was founded by Jordanian Writer and Producer Bassel Ghandour, in association with Rupert Lloyd's
Noor Pictures and in co-production with Nasser Kalaji and Laith Majali. Nadine Toukan
is the Executive Producer. The film will be distributed across the Arab world by MAD Solutions, which will also handle Theeb's marketing across the region.
